Oceane Cruises
Discover Mauritius differently aboard Oceane Cruises’ catamarans in full comfort and safety in the hands of their experienced skippers. There is no age limit to enjoy the cruises. With family or with friends, an outing with Océane always brings memorable moments.
The large front decks of catamarans allow hardcore sunbathers to enjoy the sun at ease. Furthermore the spacious cabins and covered decks at the back offer large refreshing areas, to keep the children away from UV rays and to relax in the shade, without sacrificing the joys of sailing.
As for equipment, the crew will offer, at swimming time, buoys and a range of snorkeling equipment for adults and children. Each boat is also equipped with life jackets of various sizes.
The different trips offered by Oceane Cruises are as follows:
- Ecotour
First stop: The Valley of Ferney
You will be able to get off the boat and explore a natural reserve of 200-hectare with a unique biodiversity while trekking through the forest accompanied by a guide. The valley of Ferney is an indigenous forest where efforts are being made to preserve Mauritius' endemic flora. It is home to over 100 plant species and a wide variety of animals including two rare endemic birds – the Pink Pigeon and Echo Parakeet. Many conservation projects are ongoing in the valley like cultivation of endemic plants, a nursery for indigenous plants and the rehabilitation of land tortoises to re-establish the herbivorous dynamics in the reserve.
Second stop: Ile aux Aigrettes
Ile aux Aigrettes is an islet in the bay of Mahebourg maintained by the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation for the preservation of Mauritius' endemic fauna and flora. Visitors are accompanied by guides through the natural reserve – situated about 800m from the mainland’s coastline to discover an ebony forest home to the local fauna: the Mauritian gecko, the Pink Pigeon, the Telfair skink (still endangered today) and the giant Aldabra tortoise, which was introduced to replace Mauritius’ two endemic species of land tortoise, now officially extinct. It also serves as a nursery for thousands of young plants. In the past the islet was also home to the Dodo. You might also catch a glimpse of the Mauritian Kestrel, saved from extinction and roaming free in the island’s forest. Ile aux Aigrettes is also a particularly beautiful swimming and snorkeling spot.
