Trou aux Cerfs - Dormant Volcano

Family Fun Sports
One of the most popular Mauritius attractions amongst people who like to climb volcanoes and peer down into crater is the Trou aux Cerfs also known as Murr’s Volcano. Located in the central portions of the island near the town of Curepipe, the Trou aux Cerfs towers 605 metres into the sky above the island. The Trou aux Cerfs is a dormant volcano which was active some 2 million years ago during the creation of Mauritius.

Once on top you can gaze down into the crater that is 350 metres in diameter with a depth of 105 metres where your eyes will feast on a lake that is filled with brightly coloured algae. If that is not enough then enjoy the panoramic views which include Rempart Mountain, Port-Louis Moka mountain range and Trois Mamelles as well as the city of Curepipe. Also onsite is a jogging park where you can be assured of having great scenery while you exercise.
