Description
Embark on a hike to Piton Canot, a popular trail near Chamarel on the southwest side of Mauritius. Known for its panoramic views over the southwest coast, including Le Morne, the ocean, and surrounding forests, this hike is especially beautiful around sunset.
Meeting point: Parking at the entrance of Chamarel village (use pin location)
Begin your hike on a trail that is moderate in difficulty, suitable for hikers with a basic level of fitness. The initial sections are easier, while the final ascent to the summit is steeper and short but rewarding.
Reach the summit, which stands at approximately 540 meters, and take in the wide southwestern and ocean views.
The hike will start 2–3 hours before sunset, aiming to reach the summit just before golden hour. Enjoy the views, and drop down while it’s still light.
