Description
Escape into the heart of Black River Gorges National Park on a peaceful guided birdwatching experience through Mauritius' largest native forest. Led by a knowledgeable local guide, this easy morning walk offers a unique opportunity to discover the island's remarkable biodiversity while learning about one of the world's greatest wildlife conservation success stories.
As you follow quiet forest trails, keep an eye out for Mauritius' nine endemic bird species. On most tours, we typically observe five to six species, including the Pink Pigeon, Echo Parakeet, Mauritius Bulbul, Mauritius Cuckooshrike, Mauritius Fody, and Grey White-eye. With a little luck, you may also spot the elegant Paradise Flycatcher or even the rare Mauritius Kestrel, one of the world's most endangered birds.
Throughout the walk, your guide will introduce you to the island's endemic flora, volcanic landscape, and unique ecosystems while sharing the inspiring story of how several of Mauritius' endemic birds were brought back from the brink of extinction through decades of dedicated conservation efforts.
The experience also includes several scenic viewpoints overlooking the spectacular Black River Gorges National Park, where you'll enjoy panoramic views of lush valleys, waterfalls, native forests, and Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire, Mauritius' highest peak.
To enhance your experience, one pair of binoculars is provided per booking, allowing you to observe the birds more closely in their natural habitat.
Whether you're an avid birdwatcher, wildlife photographer, or simply a nature lover, this tour offers a relaxing and rewarding way to discover the exceptional natural heritage of Mauritius.
