Description
Begin your journey at Trou Aux Cerfs Crater, a dormant volcano with a well-defined cone. Walk around the crater and enjoy a view of the city of Curepipe.
Next, visit the sacred lake of Grand Bassin, also known as Ganga Talao. Experience the tranquility and pleasant atmosphere of this sacred site. Although everyone is welcome to visit Grand Bassin, it is asked that visitors take off their shoes before entering the temple.
Continue to Alexandra Falls, one of the most popular nature sites in Mauritius. Stand about 700 meters above sea level and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the falls. Feel a fresh breeze brushing against your skin and a sense of well-being.
Next, visit Plaines Champagne, a peaceful spot located in the Black River Gorges, surrounded by trees, rivers, and waterfalls. Enjoy a panoramic view of the magnificent mountains and ocean. In 1994, the area was declared a protected area by researchers. With more than 300 floral varieties and nine endemic bird species, it is also a critical habitat for three of the island’s most endangered bird species.
Continue to Chamarel Waterfall, the highest and most impressive waterfall in Mauritius. The falls plunge over 85 meters down against a scenic backdrop of forests and mountains. There are three distinct streams of water plunging down from the St. Denis River into the gorge.
Next, visit the Chamarel rum distillery. Overlooking the road leading to the Seven Colored Earths, the rum distillery offers tastings of agricultural rums distilled on site, guided tours, a shop, and a restaurant with an evolving and refined menu.
Finally, visit the Seven Colored Earth, a small area of forest landscape with a very rare geological curiosity. This phenomenon of color variations occurs through the cooling of molten rock at different temperatures. The land is at an unusual form with beautiful dunes of different colors that vary from brown, ocher, pink, orange, and purple.
