Your hiking trip starts with a hotel pick-up anywhere in Mauritius. Meet your certified guide and board a comfortable vehicle for the journey to Black River Gorge, covering 6,754 hectares in the hilly southwest of the island.
With expert guidance, discover one of the world’s rarest forests, home to over 300 native and endemic plant species and nine unique bird species found only in Mauritius. The trail is easy and accessible for all ages and fitness levels, requiring no prior hiking experience.
Hike through the indigenous Machabee forest while enjoying panoramic views and learning about native vegetation and endemic birdlife. Your guide ensures your safety and offers insights on local fauna and flora. You may also access shortcut paths and less-known areas rarely seen by visitors.
During the hike, you will see a broad gorge curving between mountains, waterfalls cascading down hillsides, and a protected rainforest habitat housing the Mauritian flying fox and endemic birds such as the Mauritius kestrel, pink pigeon, and Mauritius parakeet.
