Then join us for People of the Sun, a musical rendezvous happening at sundown set from Friday onto Sunday with the finest Mauritian artists.
This weekend’s line-up is as follows:
Friday 18th May 5PM-7PM - Jason Lily
Saturday 19th May 5PM-7PM - Emlyn
Sunday 20th May 5PM-7PM - Hans Nayna
About the artists:
Jason Lily had the calling to practice music in his childhood. After four years in a Chair, he participated in 2011 in the First Jazz Contest, Singer Category and one year later was in Nottingham for the World Event Young Artist (WEYA) festival with his former band, Patyatann. In 2012, his new band Maron’er got the “Prix Découverte” from the Festival “Enn” and in 2015 Jason Lily won the 3rd price of the International Carnival of Victoria, Seychelles in April with the Mauritian fleet.
Emlyn is one of the most promising breakthrough artists on the local scene. She was discovered with her song “Synthetik” accompanied by the “Orchestra of Souls” and her following release was “Lao”. Very much into conscious art, her texts, mostly in creole, arise on a Sega rhythm with several melodic influences. Traditional instruments like the Ravann, Triang or Kayamb, mixed with the more accidental touch of the guitar, give her music a certain authenticity.
Hans Nayna is a full name singer/songwriter and guitarist. He sings and composes in English. His music backgrounds are mainly soul, rock and blues music, for the soul. He’s got smoky vocals, soulful singing with brand melodic pop-rock lyrical crafting which make Hans an accessible performer with a distinctive personality. In 2013, he ended as a runner-up in a singing contest in Reunion Island and in 2017 he won the best Male Voice of the Indian Ocean which makes him one of the most famous musicians on the island, but also across Africa.
Friday ’s and Sunday’s People of the Sun’s performances will be followed by House of the Sun, where Mauritius’ most en-vue DJs come together with musicians or vocalists to bring Balearic tunes to our shores. Find out more about House of the Sun
