If you are looking for a traditional Mauritian hotel, Zilwa Attitude is the best pick for you. The name Zilwa means islander and it is the first hotel on Mauritius to have a Creole name.

You will find plenty of Mauritian architecture throughout the hotel and the rooms are in bungalows on the beach. These bungalows have thatch or tin on the roofs and are brightly coloured inside.

The hotel is on the north coast of Mauritius near to the fishing village of Grand Gaube. If you want to immerse yourself in local life, why not pay this village a visit?

ROOMS

There are 214 rooms in the hotel, all traditionally furnished, with paintings of boats on the walls. The furniture and carpets have been made by locals and you even get a pair of dodo flip flops as part of the package.

There are four different rooms on offer.

The superior room is 35m2 and is suitable for two adults and a child. The family room is 45m2 and can accommodate four adults or two adults and two children. The couple deluxe room is 40m2 and is suitable for two adults. Finally, there is the family deluxe room which is 50m2 and has room for two adults and three children.

All rooms have a furnished terrace or balcony. There is a mini bar, air conditioning, and a TV in each room.

RESTAURANTS & BARS

There are a total of seven restaurants at the Zilwa Attitude so you won’t go hungry or bored with the same sort of food. 

The main restaurant, Karay, has a beautiful view over the lagoon and the islands. It is open for breakfast and dinner, with special themed evenings. You could be whisked away to the Far East or India or Europe. 

Siaw is a fusion of Chinese and Creole cuisine and is open for dinner. You will be impressed by the live cooking.

Lor Disab is open for lunch and dinner and serves a la carte. You have to be over sixteen to dine here in the evenings.

Gran Zil bbq serves lunch in exotic surroundings. It is a barbecue on the beach which serves meat, fish, and vegetarian options.

If you love Indian food, head over to Tadka. Kot Nou serves genuine Mauritian fare for dinner, and Taba-j has Mauritian street food for lunch. Try delicious rotis, faratas, curries, and so much more.

Lor Disab is also a bar which is open from 11 a.m. until midnight. Siro Kann serves delicious rum cocktails flavoured with fresh fruits and is open from 9 a.m. until midnight.

SPA

Zilwa Attitude Spa is also traditionally Mauritian. There is a herb garden and wooden huts which house ten massage rooms, a hammam or Turkish bath, a Watsu pool, and a fountain of ice. There are massages, body care, and facials on offer and be prepared to be pampered. If you feel stressed out this is definitely the place to come.

ACTIVITIES

You will be spoilt for choice by the activities on offer at the hotel. If you love the water, there are four swimming pools.

Included in the price, there is a trip out on a glass bottom boat, kayaking, pedal boats, snorkelling, wind surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, water polo, and aqua gym.

At an extra cost you can go diving with PADI instructors, kite surfing, and big game fishing.

If you like to keep your feet firmly on the ground, visit the gym, play beach volley, table tennis, tennis volley, petanque, or tennis. Bicycles come at an extra cost, but you’ll be able to see the island.

There are trips on offer, such as a barbecue on the island of Grand Zil and a tour of Goodlands, a typical Mauritian village.

In the evenings there is entertainment, including the Mauritian dance, sega.

There is also a club for children aged three through twelve which will keep them entertained all day. There are treasure hunts, trips on the glass bottom boat, shows, games in the swimming pool, and lots more.

OTHER FACILITIES

There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel so you can keep in touch with the outside world. If you need your children babysat, this is on offer.
