I'm absolutely delighted with my stay at Dodola Lodge! ✨ The rooms were fantastic, super clean and comfy. Mitch and Kim are two lovely youngsters who manage the hotel. As it's a small establishment , they were clear on the onset that they're till 6 PM. The rooms itself were what was required, clean comfortable and spacious..... Just about 100 meters from the beach .... Which I would say was a very good choice as it wasn't crowded or littered by boats like other beaches.... Monchoisy unfortunately has become much more commercial and so has grand bay.... The restaurant downstairs was amazing ..... They know food and drinks.... Mitch did help me by making the immigration know that I was actually booked there.... The cleaning was good, the showering facilities were also good. An excellent say Mitch and Kim thanks so much.... A word for the negative reviews, please have courtesy towards your host and be friendly, they're humans ... Mitch actually went out of the way when I told him my flight was at about 10 in the night, he let me check out at 5.30. what more can one ask for ? The service was top-notch, everyone was so friendly and helpful. 💖 Plus, the location was perfect for exploring. Highly recommend! 📍
I was looking for a place to stay and came across Dodola Lodge. I made my booking around 6:00 PM and informed the receptionist that I would be checking in late, around 9:00 PM. They were fully aware of my late arrival. However, I was charged the full amount, even though I booked well after the official check-in time of 2:00 PM. I also found it disappointing that I was strictly required to check out at 12:00 noon the next day. The air conditioning in the room was not working properly — no cold air was coming out at all. On top of that, the room was very dusty everywhere, which made the stay quite uncomfortable. The bedsheets also have a weird smell. During check-out, the receptionist (a young lady with short hair cut) was very rude. She did not greet us or say good morning. She immediately pointed out that check-out was at noon, even though we were only 10 minutes late. Overall, the experience was disappointing and did not meet my expectations.
I hate to leave negative reviews. I’m a business owner myself and understand how challenging things can be in this economy. But this stay left me genuinely disappointed. We were really looking forward to our time here because the hotel has a lot of potential. The hotel itself is cute and cozy. The property is ideally located right across from the beach, which is fantastic. The rooms have a lot of natural light and a big bay window with a nice balcony. Unfortunately, the moment we arrived, the girl at the front desk acted as if we were a bother rather than guests, giving us a cold, dismissive welcome. This seems to be a recurring pattern from what I see in other reviews. My partner and I were left scratching our heads as to what happened. First impressions matter, and this one just felt weird. I know this isn’t a five star resort but still, there’s a minimum… The room: the ceiling fan didn’t work, the safe was out of order, the AC didn’t blow cool air, and the stairway leading to the rooms was poorly lit. Humans are relational creatures, and personally I can overlook minor maintenance issues if the staff treats you decently, not like you’re another sucker walking in. And I say this with sadness because Mauritius relies heavily on tourism. A simple friendly greeting and genuine care would elevate this hotel tremendously, even without luxury amenities. For this reason alone, I would not recommend this hotel to friends, family, or colleagues. Five stars for the location and potential; minus two for the cold welcome.
