Then join us for People of the Sun, a musical rendezvous happening at sundown set from Friday onto Sunday with the finest Mauritian artists.
This weekend’s line-up is as follows:
Friday 18th May 5PM-7PM - EvaD
Saturday 19th May 5PM-7PM - Philippe Thomas Syndicate
Sunday 20 th May 5PM-7PM - Emmanuel Desroches
About the artists:
EvaD means escape in French. Escape from the normal things that make our day to day life. EvaD is composed of two best friends Jean-Luc and Jerome. This duo gives a different swing to music you can hear in Mauritius. With a huge influence from the flamenco, they propose a fusion music style with influences of the Mauritian cultures.
Philippe Thomas is THE local jazzman which every Mauritian knows. Philippe mixes jazz, the sega, the blues melancholy, the energy from reggae and his open mind to make a perfect symphony. With his experience earned thanks to jazz masters like Ernest Wiehe and Linley Marthe, he now lights up our local stages with his trumpet. For him, jazz remains an open and generous music which harmoniously fits the sega to give our unique sega-jazz.
Emmanuel Desroches, AKA Manu, plays with the notes of his guitar to open the door to his world. In solo or accompanied, this raw talent mixed with passion and good energy impressed the public by his ability to adapt himself to every kind of musical genre. Sometimes on the bass and other times on the guitar, Manu also sings. He allows himself to explore different musical universe mixing new encounters and cultures within his sound.
Friday ’s and Sunday’s People of the Sun’s performance will be followed by House of the Sun, where Mauritius’ most en-vue DJs come together with musicians or vocalists to bring Balearic tunes to our shores. Click to find out more about House of the Sun
