For this edition of JIOI the number of gold medals will increase from 45 to 48, eight categories for men and eight for women. The lifters will compete in three categories 'l’arraché, l’épaulé-jeté & le total olympique'.
In Seychelles, Mauritian weightlifting took off with 22 out of 30 gold metals. Anaudin, Amurat, Lim Fen Chow, Rummun, Gerie, Dodin and Corret recorded the tripled / jerk-thrown / Olympic total, while Soupprayen and Bade both won two gold medals.
Mauritius will be able to rely on seniors such as Shalinee Valaydon and Emanuella Labonne, to push the new wave of young weightlifters such as the Madanamoothoo brothers and Ketty Lent.
